DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT

DO WELL, BE WELL (DWBW) SELF-MANAGEMENT COURSE

Dates: Tuesday evenings, September 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30, 2008.

Location: Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, Preparedness Training Room at 225 W. Waco Dr (corner of 3rd and Waco Dr.)

Time: Evening (6:00-9:00)

DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP

Dates: Third Tuesday of every month

Location: Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, Preparedness Training Room at 225 W. Waco Dr (corner of 3rd and Waco Dr.)

Time: Afternoon (1:00 - 2:00 pm)

An alternate evening support group meets the third Tuesday of every month at Providence Hospital. For more information call 751-4257.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROGRAMS

SUMMER ACTIVITY PROGRAM

Dates: June 23 - August 15, 2008

FREE 8-wk workout program for persons and families at risk of Diabetes. Includes aerobics and gym passes as well as weight loss monitoring and nutritional evaluation.

An 8-week walking program for Moms and Toddlers

OTHER COMMUNITY EXERCISE PROGRAMS

Dates: Year-round

Sit and Be Fit - Exercises for those with limited mobility. They air on the City of Waco Cable Channel (WCCC-10) at the following times:

Monday: 7:00 am and 2:00 pm

Tuesday: 7:00 am, 11:00 am,and 9:30 pm

Wednesday: 7:00 am

Thursday: 7:00 am and 11:00 am

Friday: 7:00 am

Memory Walk

Date:  Saturday, September 13

Time:  Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Walk begins at 9.

Place:  Indian Springs Park/ Riverwalk

Details:  1.75 mile walk. Fundraiser for Alzheimer's Association

MS Run for Hope 5K & Walk

Date: Saturday, September 27

Time: Onsite registration begins at 7, walk begins at 7:45, and race begins at 8 am.

Place: Cameron Park Zoo

Details: 5K & Walk. 1 mile and 5K walks are free. 5K Run is $20. Registration is available online and on-site.

Speak up for Kids CASA walk/run

Date: Saturday, October 18

Time: Registration is 6:30 – 7:30 and races begin at 8.

Relay for Life

Time: 7 p.m. - 7 a.m

Place: Hart Patterson Track, Baylor University

Details: All night walk/fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer society and cancer research.

Miracle Match Marathon

Date: Saturday, October 26

Time: 7:30 am onwards

Place: Starts at the Suspension Bridge.

Details: Includes a full marathon, ½ marathon, 2-person relay, 5K, 1 mile run/walk, and kids run. Registration costs vary based on type of race/walk. Benefits go to the Scott & White Marrow Donor Program.

Marines Leatherneck Run

Date: Saturday, November 8

Time: 8:00 AM

Place: Across from the Hilton

Details: 5K Run/Walk. P roceeds go to support veteran charities, patriotic programs, events and activities

19th Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis

Date: Saturday, December 6

Time: Registration begins at 4 pm and races at 5 pm followed by the Christmas parade, awards, & tree lighting.

Place: Heritage Square, Downtown Waco

Details: Pre-registration is $20 and day of registration is $25. Registration including a Jingle Bell Run long sleeved T-shirt is $40. A team is 5 people raising a minimum of $200 (which includes entry fee and long sleeve T-shirt for each walker). Benefits go to the Arthritis Foundation.

Cameron Park Zoo Stampede

Date:  Saturday, December 13

Time:   7-10 am (Different races begin at different times)

Place:  Cameron Park Zoo

Details: 10K, 5K & 1-mile fun run. Pre-registration is $17 and $25 the day of the event. For more details check the zoo website in November.
